Total Rottweiler Magazine Issue 3 | 2010 on the way!

October 4, 2010 by kathi

The last few pages were approved at a quarter to eight this morning, and The Total Rottweiler Magazine is now at the printer!

As many of you know, I am involved with the magazine as a volunteer proofreader and copyeditor. I’m also “in charge” of the quarter-page stud dog, brood bitch, upcoming youth, and promising puppies ads, as well as the candid shots pages.

It really is a great magazine, with coverage of Rottweiler shows and sports from all over the world. To give you an idea of the wide variety of events and subjects covered, check out this issue’s contents. So I hope you don’t mind the occasional post here devoted to promoting the heck out of it!

If you love Rottweilers like I do, please check out the website, follow TTRM on Twitter, “like” TTRM on Facebook, and I hope you will subscribe!

I am a member of The Total Rottweiler Magazine’s editorial board; it is an unpaid position. In exchange for my work on the magazine, I do receive advertising space and a complimentary subscription.

First test shots!

October 3, 2010 by kathi

Who let her bring that thing in here while I am trying to nap?

For some reason, I never wrote about it here, but back in the spring of 2009 I started asking around for advice and comments to help me pick a good digital single-lens reflex camera (DSLR). I would be a first-time buyer for this type of camera. I’ve owned film and digital point-and-shoot cameras as well as entry-level film SLRs, but I would still consider myself very much an inexperienced photographer.

It took me a while, and my decision was based mostly on value and price rather than this year’s coolest technology. The camera I chose was Canon’s Rebel EOS XS.

New month, a new blank page

October 1, 2010 by kathi

It’s the start of a brand new month and October is one of my favorites. One thing I do like about the vast midwestern wasteland is the fall color change and the sunny yet cool days we get through September and most of October.

I’m going to take a shot at this month’s NaBloPoMo. The theme is “Play” and I’ve even made an Axel NaBloPoMo logo to display. The magazine (that would be Total Rottweiler Magazine) will be going to the printer sometime this weekend, a few projects have just wrapped up at work, and one other work project will wrap up on Monday, so I may actually have time to write.

But I’m not sure what I’m going to write about for an entire month. I won’t have much dog training news to report once we’re done with “The Five Minute Formula to a Brilliant Recall” course. I don’t think Freya and I will be continuing on in Rally Obedience or any other dog sports. I’m having very little success in getting her past her dislike of certain other dogs, and thus, very little confidence that she will be able to get through honor exercises or group exercises. She’ll be seven in November, so if her greatest joy will come from being retired and not having to deal with dogs she doesn’t like, then that’s what will happen.

I do owe you all a report on Axel’s last German-style conformation show. I’m waiting on his critique and photos. We’re coming up on one month after the show, so I’m hoping it will be very soon!

No, I don’t like baseball…

August 28, 2010 by kathi

I’ve mentioned more than once that I don’t like baseball. I make a major exception in my baseball dislike to enjoy and appreciate the Little League World Series when a team from Hawaii is playing (I would probably make an exception for a team from Illinois, but only if friends’ kids were on it or if it were from our sector). And even better, this year that team is representing the United States and playing against Japan in the big game tomorrow. Very happy and proud for the Waipio Little League team for one of the best comeback stories of the year!

However. I am truly offended by the crass comments coming across Twitter that insist on comparing the Hawaii-Japan matchup to Pearl Harbor. Yes, Pearl Harbor. How freaking inappropriate is that? I thought the Sugar Bowl revenge comments following the wins against Georgia were somewhat tasteless, but they pale in comparison to the Pearl Harbor comments.

I don’t think I’m particularly humor-impaired. But I’m sad to see there are quite a few people out there who are class-impaired.
