Honolulu! (26 of 31/26 of 274)

January 26, 2009 by kathi

Heavy-ish rain interfered with picture taking, other than my snarky airport and traffic shots Twittered earlier. If we are not following each other on Twitter… why not? Check my links or comment and we’ll fix that!

Also didn’t think to photograph my supper, a mini Loco Moco from L&L Drive-In, until after inhaling it.

7:45 pm here, but my body thinks it’s still in Chicago and close to midnight. So we’ll see you tomorrow.

Posting just to post (25 of 31/25 of 274)

January 25, 2009 by kathi

I’m taking a break from packing and last-minute website updates to get tonight’s post in. Next post will hopefully be from Hawaii! Weather is supposed to be unpleasantly frigid on this end (the Chicago end) tomorrow, but not so terrible as to interfere with our departure. At least, I hope it doesn’t interfere. Weather is supposed to be unseasonably cool on the Honolulu end, but that means highs in the 70s rather than the 80s. I’m good with that. See you tomorrow on that end!

Does this count? (24 of 31/24 of 274)

January 24, 2009 by kathi

Got a sinus headache and too much to do before we leave on our trip. Got Axe’s entry confirmations for next weekend… with his name misspelled. Not a huge problem as his AKC number is correct, but it will be wrong in his first catalog. Oh, well.

This will have to do for today’s post!

What goes next? (23 of 31/23 of 274)

January 23, 2009 by kathi

Maurice Lenell cookies sold and closing its Norridge bakery. Waterford crystal going into receivership.

And now Best’s Kosher Hot Dogs will be gone by the end of the month. Even though Vienna Beef is my first choice dog, Best’s runs a close second. It has been the dog of choice at both major league ballparks here. Summer will be a little different from here on out.

Big losses and layoffs at Harley-Davidson, too. Some years that’s been our only investment that’s grown nicely or at least held steady (actual motorcycles and stock shares both). Heard a segment on NPR this evening where they gave the average price of a new Harley as $15,000. I guess they aren’t talking about fully loaded touring models bought by a chrome- and gadget-loving person who actually puts substantial miles on the beast. I’m pretty sure my husband’s most recent bagger cost more than any 4-wheeled vehicle I’ve ever owned.

The older you get, the more things there are that exist only in your memories. Of course. How else could it be? But it sure seems that the process has been accelerated during the past couple of years.

Saturation point (22 of 31/22 of 247)

January 22, 2009 by kathi

That’s it. I’ve reached the saturation point. There’s only so long I can sit in front of a computer screen for any reason. Over the last couple of days, work (and work brought home) has used up almost all of that “so long.”

So this will be very short.

I enjoyed this Washington Post article about the supposed “technological dark ages” at the White House. zOMG, no Macs!!1!! Of course, still keeping up on the updates regarding the First BlackBerry. After reading conflicting reports as to whether it is in fact a real BlackBerry or some overpriced “other” smartphone, I think it is in fact an actual BlackBerry.

I’m sure I’ll be back to my normally digital self tomorrow, and I’ll be a day closer to vacation as well. That will do wonders for my outlook, I am sure!
