A Rottweiler opens the mailbox…

October 29, 2009 by kathi

Recently, I was fortunate enough to receive a pay-it-forward from Jen of Jensconsin. Along with the lovely and warm mittens that will help keep away the chill of soon-to-be winter, there were some treats for the Rottweilers from Jen’s son. Thank you so much!

I’ll be doing a bloggy pay-it-forward here at Rottweilers Ate My Laptop sometime during the winter.

Freya misunderstands Jen’s note and decides the mittens are for her. Here, she has not quite figured out that her lack of thumbs is going to be a problem.

Freya finally figures out that the cookies, not the mittens, are for her. She doesn’t take her eyes off my hand till the cookie arcs in her direction.

freya_DSCN0195
Freya once again laments her lack of thumbs as she tries to figure out how to get Axel’s cookies, too. She vows to figure out the Zip-Loc principle before Axel returns home from the shows.

Is it that time already?

September 21, 2009 by kathi

Time for September IComLeavWe, that is! This will be only my second time participating in this monthly week of sharing comments and finding or rediscovering blogs and friends. Last month I rudely failed to introduce myself except through my “about” page. This month I shall try to be a little less rude!

So, a big welcome from me, Kathi, to those of you who have wandered over here thanks to IComLeavWe! I stumbled upon IComLeavWe sort of indirectly through BlogHer last month, and it seemed like an interesting way to “meet” more bloggers and blogs. So here I am again. I hope you get a little smile out of my struggles with taming technology and Rottweilers, or marvel along with me at the freakshow that life in Chicago can be.

Not just talking to myself

August 20, 2009 by kathi

I’m sure that everyone who’s ever blogged, even those of you who are now drowning in popularity and surrounded by millions of fans, is familiar with the imaginary echo. You know, the one of your own bloggy voice, when you feel like you’re just talking to yourself. Eventually you either find your people (sometimes a huge number of them and sometimes just a few), or get comfortable with the sound of your own voice, or more likely, a combination of both.

It’s still nice to get confirmation that someone is out there. So the efforts of these creative folks to bring a little more interaction to their corners of the ‘net is something I really appreciate and enjoy participating in.

I’ve been participating in the Mingle at Indigo’s That’s My Answer! for a few months now. Participants share comments every Thursday throughout the month: comment on three blogs within the group and return a visit from someone who has visited you. It’s a smallish group with a variety of blog topics. I’ve enjoyed “meeting” blogs and bloggers I might not otherwise have come across in my travels across the ‘net. Signup is ongoing, so check it out if you have the time.

This will be the first time I participate in IComLeavWe at Melissa’s Stirrup Queens. This project is in its third year, and now runs year-round. Participants can sign up from the first through the 21st of the month (so hurry up if you want to get in for this month). Each day for the week from the 21st through the 28th, comment on five blogs and return one comment, preferably blogs on the participant list. You can also participate as a blog reader even if you don’t have a blog of your own. I’m looking forward to this and hope at least a few people find my blog interesting enough to comment on, or at least read.

Melissa has also created a brand new blogger game: Blogger Bingo which is still open for signups until Sunday night. Go read about it, that link and this one, too… now can you even wait till Monday to start playing? Very excited for this to start!

So at least for the next week or two, I shouldn’t be just talking to myself. What about you?

Link love

August 17, 2009 by kathi

Since my own output of quality prose is somewhat sparse at the moment, and the makeover of my blogroll and links list and page has come to a grinding halt, please allow me to introduce (or re-introduce) you to a few loved links!

The Denora has been on hiatus for a few months, and I missed her! But now she’s back in fine form, with a spiffy new design and new location as well. Go visit, you will enjoy!

Joanna at Ruffly Speaking just got a new puppy, so you could visit for adorable puppy photos alone. Even more valuable, though, is her great commentary on puppy socialization as “Friday” becomes part of their family. UPDATE: Now with a new location and great new layout at http://blacksheepcardigans.com/

I’ve written here before about Jim Nelson’s and René Agredano’s Tripawds resource site for three-legged dogs. They have made many updates and additions to the site following a donation drive this past spring, and just this past weekend, hosted a get-together in Longmont, Colorado for three-legged dogs and their “pawrents.” Sounds like it was quite a success! As always, applause to Jim and René for all of their work in providing this resource, and much love from angel Jake, my own dearly-missed tripawd.

I have many loved links, and I hope that by highlighting a few of them, I didn’t give anyone the idea that my other links are not loved as well. Go visit them all, well, as soon as I get the blogroll organized again anyway!
