We didn’t take the shot

March 27, 2010 by kathi

Yesterday I was still considering the possibility of taking our best shot at qualifying at Level 3 in this weekend’s UKC rally obedience trial.

We didn’t take the shot at all. Freya was refusing sits this morning during our practice session. At first I thought she was just blowing me off. But she did seem a bit stiff and sore. We may have overdone things while trying to catch up on last minute training, particularly the jumps. I didn’t want her to associate trialing with discomfort, especially not at one of her “safe places.” And I definitely didn’t want her to crash a jump.

Freya seems to be feeling better after a full day of rest. I don’t think she was faking it. Do dogs do that? Right now, I am thinking we will skip tomorrow’s trial as well, but I’ll let her tell me how she feels in the morning.

Could a dog fake something? I believe so 🙂 For example, Jasmine fakes needing to go to the bathroom if she wants to get my back side off my computer chair. She knows that once she gets me moving she has a better chance of getting what she wanted to start out with.

There needs to be a very good reason though. If you cannot think of a very good reason, there probably is no faking.

Dogs do get sore after a long day.

Hehehe… I forgot all about the “fake potty break” strategy! My first Rottie boy used to do that whenever he wanted to get his sister and any humans away from the toy he really wanted 🙂

LOL Yeah, Jasmine used to lure her big brother away from a chew stick by pretending she wanted a cookie. Took me a while, she comes over asking for a cookie (big guy hot on her heals of course), I get her do something, she does is but doesn’t want the cookie. What she wanted was for him to rush over and sneak away his stick 🙂
