Our hosts Life With Dogs, Two Little Cavaliers, and Confessions of the Plume bring us into Week 24 of the Blog Hop as we approach Halloween! Quite a few pet bloggers are preparing for Halloween festivities, and I’m envious of those of you whose dogs don’t mind wearing stuff, and enjoying the photos. We’re not that creative here, plus the canine members of the team are not so tolerant of clothing. So Freya and Axel are going to be…. Rottweilers. Boo!

Book (and magazine) break
I’m going to take off the rest of the night to read. And by read, I mean read an actual book and an actual magazine, not read things online.
The book is Innocent, by Scott Turow. I probably should have reread Presumed Innocent since it’s been years since I’ve read it or seen the movie, and Innocent is its sequel. I’m enjoying it so far, but I have the nagging feeling I’d be enjoying it even more if I had a clearer recollection of the characters and incidents from the earlier story.
The magazine is The Total Rottweiler Magazine. If you remember that I am the magazine’s volunteer proofreader and copyeditor, you may be wondering why, since I’ve seen it already. It’s a totally different experience to read it for enjoyment rather than being focused on spotting errors. It’s not solely the electronic vs. paper thing either, although it is nice to hold a printed copy in my hands and smell that newly-printed smell.
So what are you reading offline these days?

The mums, a week later
If I had my act together, I would have taken this photograph from the same vantage point with the same camera at the same time of day as the photo I took last week. Sorry, just not that organized!

To make up for my lack of organization, here is a closer view. So many more chrysanthemum flowers this week!

GNC Pets
I buy my own vitamins and supplements at GNC, as well as a few for the dogs. And of course Rescue Remedy, and it is hard to say whether that is needed more by dog or handler.
Somehow, I missed the news of the GNC Pets brand until this morning. In the email newsletter with the usual specials was an introduction to their new pet-specific supplements. They are available online at GNC.com and some of the retail stores, as well as at PetSmart.
I haven’t had a chance to compare pricing and ingredients yet, but if they look good, I’ll give these products a try. If the products are comparable to what I’m using now, the convenience of getting all human and pet supplements at one place that often does free shipping specials would be nice. The offerings for joint support and digestive health are the ones I’m most interested in trying right away.

Tuesday TV break: Glee, Sons of Anarchy
Continuing on as one of the very few members of the crossover audience for Glee and Sons of Anarchy, here is my previously-promised SoA rant followed by some thoughts on tonight’s episodes.
I’ll rant first so I can hide anything spoilerish under the “continued” jump.
I think it’s great that Sons of Anarchy has become popular with a diverse general audience and isn’t just a biker cult thing. Many of my co-workers and my husband’s co-workers watch the show, and only a few of them are bikers or motorcyclists (there is a difference). We look forward to discussing the show on Wednesdays (or Thursdays if someone is DVRing).
But I have a problem with one sector of the fan base: the posers. And to them, I say: it’s okay to not be a biker and still like SoA. It is not okay to pretend you are a real biker and try to live SoA. It’s offensive, though still mildly amusing, when you try to impress and it’s obvious your knowledge comes from your one neighbor who was in the local H.O.G. chapter for a year and actually rode a motorcycle on a long trip once, and from watching Gangland on The History Channel. It’s not amusing at all when you wear the ripoff merchandise that resembles a three-piece patch and act like you think you are in a real club or something.
I’m also not too thrilled with actual bikers who nitpick the show to death rather than enjoy it for what it is: a biker soap opera with one of the best casts and possibly the strongest writing on television right now. I know it’s easy to be critical when it’s a lifestyle, subject area, or location you are very familiar with. But too many of us have lost the ability to suspend disbelief and just enjoy.
Rant over… for now.
